Theodore Singer
Principal
Former Head of Middle East Operations, Central Intelligence Agency
Ted Singer served as the Central Intelligence Agency’s Head of Middle East Operations and five times as Chief of Station, among other leadership positions, over a distinguished 35-year federal career. His final assignment at CIA entailed establishing a new, sensitive C-suite office to identify and manage enterprise-wide risk.
Ted garnered deep regional acumen and enduring credibility across the Middle East and Europe courtesy of 25 years and 11 assignments overseas, from tactical environments to politically sensitive capitals. He earned national recognition for strategic planning and stewardship of significant personnel and financial resources and for successful operational control of fast-moving, vital national security programs, often under direct presidential oversight and invariably requiring engagement at the highest levels of policy, military, and U.S. and international partner and business leadership.
Since retiring in 2023, Ted has consulted for public and private sector clients through his company, Laplace Solutions, LLC; written and spoken about Middle East and intelligence matters; and served as a Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Middle East Initiative.
Ted has maintained proficiency in Arabic, French, and Turkish. He graduated with B.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and obtained a Certificate in Arabic from Middlebury College.
Ted received the CIA Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, CIA Director’s Award for Extraordinary Fidelity and Essential Service, and the Director of National Intelligence’s Superior Service Medal for Leadership of the U.S Intelligence Community.
Ted and spouse, Joanne, parents of two smart young women, have remained local in Washington, D.C.
