Former Deputy Director of National Intelligence and Former Associate Director of the Central Intelligence Agency

Morgan Muir is one of the nation’s leading intelligence professionals, with unparalleled experience in bringing analysis to bear on national security issues. As the Deputy Director of National Intelligence (DDNI) for Mission Integration, he was responsible over the past four years for the daily production of the President’s Daily Brief (PDB) and for reviewing key tactical and strategic analyses by the National Intelligence Council.  He has been at the center of issues such as our nation’s efforts to anticipate and blunt China’s growing challenge to US interests, promote security and stability in the Middle East, manage its relationship with Russia and deal with transnational threats.

Morgan’s senior assignments in his distinguished career with CIA included a tour as the first Associate Director of CIA for the Near East as well as the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Analysis, where his responsibilities included CIA’s analysis as well as the training and tradecraft standards for the analytic cadre.  Prior to that, he worked in the Counter Terrorism Center (CTC) from 2008 to 2012, with stints as Deputy Director of CTC and as chief of its analytic office.  He also spent a month as the Acting Deputy Director of the CIA.

Over his career, Morgan also gained extensive experience in supporting senior US policymakers and working with liaison services around the world.  He was President George W. Bush’s morning intelligence briefer for four years and worked on three occasions for Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, including during the shuttle diplomacy that led to the Dayton Peace Accords. In addition to his extensive engagement with liaison services as a senior CIA officer, he did two tours overseas and actively supported NSC-led negotiations.

Morgan is the recipient of numerous awards.  He received the George Washington Spymaster Award from the DNI and the National Security Medal from the National Security Council.  He has received two Presidential Rank Awards, the National Security Agency’s Public Service Award, CIA’s Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, and numerous other Awards.
